Saurabh Paul

I am a PhD student at the Dept. of Physics, Joint Quantum Institute and Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science, University of Maryland, College Park. I work in the group of Dr. Eite Tiesinga. I did my Masters in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India and my Bachelor of Science, Physics (Hons) from Banaras Hindu University, India.

My research involves theoretically studying many-body quantum systems engineered using ultra-cold atoms in optical lattices. This has burgeoned into a highly exciting research area, and has become the testing ground for a huge array of condensed matter and quantum phenomena. In my research, I do analytical as well as extensive numerical computations. Initially, much of the coding I did was in Fortran 90. In the last couple of years, I have switched to a large extent to using Python. I am proficient in Mathematica and also familiar with C++. I use Ubuntu most of the time, with intermittent use of Red Hat Enterprise Linux in my office desktop. As an aside, I also have some familiarity with HTML and CSS, a knowledge that came handy in creating this webpage!

I love photography! It gives me immense joy and also acts as a stress buster. You would usually find me photo editing in my pastime!
